WONDERFUL HORSES FOR SALE!!!

PLEASE READ FULLY:

Sheldon and Rhonda Bignell have made the difficult decision to close Thunder Ridge Trails Ranch permanently after the 2022 season. As lifetime horse professionals, they used their expertise to gather some amazingly wonderful horses that are safe and dependable. Read the Google reviews and you'll see how much joy these horses have brought people for the last 3 summers! Most of the people who rode at Thunder Ridge had never been on a horse before.

Because most of the horses are suitable for people who’ve never ridden before, many of them are walk/trot horses and are what many people describe as a “Husband Horse": ideal horses for when you have company, or to have an inexperienced or nervous family member tag along for an occasional ride.

Most of these horses are not registered with a breed registry, unless mentioned otherwise. If any of the horses have scars, unsoundness or health issues that we’re aware of, it will be mentioned in their description; same with major vices or behaviour issues. Everything is kept up to date with all the horses: teeth, feet, vaccinations, and de-worming.

These horses will be available to meet for the month of September and then they will be available to sell to the best price and home offered on October 01, 2022.

Carmichael – 21 year old Canadian gelding, 15 HH
Carmichael is such a good-looking fellow! Carmichael goes English and is more of an arena horse than a trail horse. It's very likely he was broke to drive in the past, but we haven’t found time to check this out. Carmichael has arthritis in his front left knee and he should be limited to walk/trot riding. He would make a good English walk/trot lesson horse, or excellent for someone who likes to go on easy rides. Carmichael cannot be in a mixed herd, he tends to get possessive over mares so he's best in a herd of strictly geldings and not across the fence from mares. $1800 or offers from a great home. Call 780-243-6882

Juice – 10 year old Percheron mare, 16 HH
Magnificent mare that loves, loves, loves people! She is green to ride and gets super-happy when she’s being ridden. Juice has no dangerous behaviours, other than she’d love to jump on your lap and cuddle. Juice is not breeding sound and won’t be sold to anyone looking for breeding a horse. Juice will be best suited for a somewhat experienced owner who would enjoy forming a bond and fussing over her. $5200 firm. Call/text 780-243-6882

Teddybear – 22 year old Appaloosa mare, 14.3 HH
Nice, dependable mare with a sturdy build and lots of gorgeous muscling. Rides Western (neck-reins). Can pony horses off her, ride her bareback, hang upside down on her... Has been ridden in the mountains a lot. Teddy has barbed wire scars on her legs that don’t seem to affect her movement or soundness. She has very short ears as they likely froze off when she was born. Because of this, she gets sore from a bridle sitting too close to her ears (doesn’t like to be bridled), so we just ride her in a halter and she behaves very well. More whoa than go, and requires a firm rider with strong legs to get her going when riding her alone. Has 2 vices 1) Is difficult for farrier to handle, although quickly improving  2)pulls back and breaks her lead when tied in a trailer. $2200, open to offers from a good home. Call/text 780-243-6882

Frosty – 18 year old Arabian gelding, 14.2 HH - SALE PENDING

The sweetest horse ever! Frosty is a happy boy, his ears are always forward and he’s always happy to see people and to go on rides. Frosty absolutely loves children and enjoys looking after them on the trail. Frosty has also done many walk/trot lessons and children's camps. He rides English or Western (neck-reins) and will lope for those who are more adventurous out on the trail. You can pony other horses from him, as well as lead him from other horses.  Frosty has 2 vices: 1) occasionally pulls back if startled when tied, but otherwise ties well 2) will load, but doesn’t load in a trailer as readily as most of our horses. Frosty is so loving and affectionate; he’s a once-in-a-lifetime special horse. $4800

Jeff – 12 year old Percheron gelding, 15.3 HH - SOLD
Everybody loves Jeff! Anybody can ride him, English or Western (neck-reins), and he’s also very well broke to drive. He’s on the laid-back side, so walk/trot is more his speed. You can take Jeff anywhere; he’s been to the mountains, Tim Horton’s drive-through, and multiple parades. He’s even pulled Santa in his sleigh in a 3+ hour night-time Christmas parade. You can pony any horse from him, ride bareback, ride double. He gets along in any herd. Jeff is a perfect gentleman with no vices. $12,000

Mr Smith - 20 year old Arabian gelding, 15 HH - SOLD
A little more pep than some of the others we are selling; Mr Smith is a retired jumping lesson horse (can no longer be used for jumping). Mr Smith goes w/t/c in an arena or out on the trail. Is more of an English horse, but can be ridden Western (doesn’t neck-rein). He has some arthritis but doesn’t require maintenance as long as he’s not ridden too hard. Mr Smith is a good boy, no spook or bolt, and ties well. $2800

Blue – 19 year old Percheron/QH gelding, 16.1 HH - SOLD
We call Blue the Western Cadillac of our horses; a retired ranch horse, he neck-reins like a dream and responds to cues beautifully for any level of rider. Blue has string-halt in his rear right leg; it doesn’t cause him any pain and doesn’t bother him when he goes on long rides, in fact, it improves as he moves more; however, he is retired from competitive riding and should remain that way. This fantastic boy will make someone a very proud and happy owner. $4800

Bondi – 15 year old Belgian mare, 15.1 HH - SOLD
Beautiful, dependable mare. Bondi is best suited as a trail horse to follow another horse. She is so reliable on the trail that we used her more than any other horse this summer. She rides w/t, and doesn’t neck rein. Bondi is likely broke to drive. Only vice is she’s not the best at having her back feet handled. Bondi had ulcers when we bought her and we give her ulcer prevention medication before riding her. This girl is safe, safe, safe! $4500

Pine Rivers Autumn  – 19 year old Registered Norwegian Fjord mare, 14.3 HH - SOLD
English or Western, Autumn is a delightful bowl of jello to ride! This happy girl is such a sweet-heart that can be ridden in an arena or out on the trail. Rides w/t/c, although it takes a firm rider to get her beyond a trot! Autumn is a very easy keeper, so requires portion control and can’t be on plush pastures. Autumn has Cushings and requires a daily pill. She has a very heavy Norwegian coat and needs to be shaved/body-clipped early each summer. Absolutely no vices, other than she loves to try to eat while trail riding.  $5500

Spirit Omine – 20 year old Registered Quarter Horse mare, 15 HH - LEASED
Holly has quickly become one of our favorites since we purchased her in June! While she's great with beginner riders, experienced riders also enjoy riding her. Rides Western (neck-reins). She’s a good, sturdy build with a classic Quarter Horse conformation. Great mountain horse. Has a nasty barbed wire scar on rear left leg that doesn’t seem to affect her movement or soundness. Two vices: 1) doesn’t stand quietly while tied but doesn’t pull back  2) not great for farrier. $2900 LEASED, WILL BE FOR SALE IN THE SPRING 2023

Judy & Jill – 25 year old Percheron/QH mare, 15.2 HH & 16 year old Percheron mare, 16.2 HH
MUST GO TO A RELAXED HOME WITH PASTURE - SOLD
Judy is well broke to ride and is amazing for children. She is well-broke to drive but is retired from driving. She is arthritic, and has Cushings so requires a daily pill. She also gets quite shaggy from the Cushings and needs to be shaved/body clipped early each summer. She also requires plenty of good-quality hay in the winter and plush pasture in the summer. Judy will go to a home that will only do occasional quiet rides. Judy is a super-good girl and has no vices at all.

Jill is a retired driving horse, and is used to living with a driving partner. She has decided Judy is her partner and is very dedicated to looking after Judy in the pasture. They have been separated in the past and Jill likes other horses, but Judy is still her BFF. Jill just learned to be ridden last summer and took to it very easily. Jill is very safe to ride but must ride with another horse, she just doesn’t know what it’s like to be ridden alone. She doesn't have any dangerous behaviours when ridden alone, she just slowly walks back to where she'd rather be. Jill doesn’t like having her mouth touched so she is ridden in a mechanical hackamore. She only does w/t and will probably never lope under saddle. Jill has some arthritis but doesn't require maintenance.

$1400 for the pair. Open to offers, good home a must.

Kimber – 17 year old QH mare, 14.1 HH - LEASED
Kimber has a sturdy frame that can easily carry an adult up to 180lbs. Kimber is nicely trained to be responsive to cues and neck-reins very well. She was probably used for gymkhana in the past, although she’s not racy or hyper, she is very responsive, so it suited to a rider with experience. Absolutely no vices. $4800 LEASED, WILL BE FOR SALE SPRING 2023

Kili – 11 year old Paint mare, 15 HH - SOLD
Kili is a beautiful sturdy mare, and she's sweet and loves people. One of our newest horses at the Ranch, Kili settled into the program and started taking inexperienced guests right away. Kili has a barbed-wire scar on one of her rear legs that doesn’t seem to bother her at all. Her last home said she had a soft-tissue injury a few years ago but was left to heal without riding until we bought her; she seems to have healed and we would never have known she had an issue in the past. We had an Equine Therapist work on her as soon as we bought her, just to get her re-started on the right foot. Kili rides Western (neck-reins). $4600

Smart Little Gina  – 20 year old Registered Quarter Horse mare, 14.3 HH
Gina was never used at the Ranch as she’s a Ferrari in temperament and training. Gina is extremely well-bred and highly trained for reining and cow-horse. However, her front left foot is a bit crooked so she requires regular farrier and medical maintenance and cannot be ridden overly hard.

Gina would be great for someone wanting to take weekly lessons and learn to be a light and responsive Western rider, or would be great at low-level team penning or sorting if only does a few runs. No buck or bolt, but she can be spooky and she’s hard to catch when in a pasture. Gina will remain with Sheldon and Rhonda until the right buyer is found. $3500 or best offer to the right home. Call/text 780-243-6882

Peppa - 16 year old Arabian mare, 14.1 HH - PENDING SALE
Peppa is new to the Ranch and is quickly proving to be a very sweet, quiet horse that likes children and is great for adults to ride too. Gets along well in any herd.  Can be difficult to catch at times and can use some polishing in her ground manners, but otherwise has no vices.  $2400
